Opioids

The CDC reports that 91 Americans die each day from opioid overdose. Opioids are highly addictive prescription drugs used for pain relief.

A wide variety of organizations, including distributors and manufacturers, need to be held accountable for the current health epidemic. Wholesale distributors violated federal law by failing to report suspicious orders while overprescribing communities with addictive pain killers. The manufacturers violated state and federal law through off-label use, unlawful marketing, fraud, and violations of various unfair trade practices.

Cases have been filed in Louisiana, Mississippi, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, New York, California, and Washington. It is expected that numerous new cases will be filed in the next year.

The Opioids Litigation Group provides a forum for lawyers litigating cases to share knowledge, strategies, and educational resources. The Litigation Group has a secure, members-only list server and document library where members can share pertinent information and documents regarding the litigation. This Litigation Group holds regular meetings that are closed to members only to discuss current cases and important updates.
The Opioids Litigation Group is sponsored by Counsel Financial.

  • Meetings: The group will meet at the Annual and Winter Conventions.
  • Membership: Open to Regular, Sustaining, Life, and President's Club members.
  • Dues: The Litigation Group is complementary to members of the AAJ Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Section who can agree to the terms and conditions of membership in the Litigation Group's Affidavit. If you are not yet a member, you can join the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Section here.
