2026 Team Registration Policies

School registration opens Monday, October 20 at 12:00 PM (noon) ET and closes on Thursday, October 30 at 5:00 PM ET. Schools may enter up to two teams, and each team must consist of four law students.

There will be ten regions, some virtual and some in-person – the exact number of each will be determined after registration closes. Schools may register:

  • Two in-person teams;
  • Two virtual teams;
  • One in-person team and one virtual team;
  • One in-person team; OR
  • One virtual team

Each school is guaranteed one team, and each school that requests in-person is guaranteed one in-person team. Schools serving as regional hosts will be guaranteed two teams, both in-person, should they request it at the time of registration. For all non-host schools, there is no guarantee that they will receive a second team or that the second team will be in-person. A school’s registration time may affect the way in which it receives a second team or the second team’s place on the waitlist. Team confirmations, which will include if the school is receiving one or two teams, will be sent out after registration has closed.

Registration Fees & Payment

The registration fee is $600 per virtual team and $650 per in-person team.
You may register for one or two teams via the registration form, but we will only be collecting payment via the form for the first team that you register. If you receive a second team, staff will reach out to you to collect payment for the second team at that time.
Please have payment information prepared before beginning this team registration process. If you cannot provide payment information for the first team at this time, please fill out the first page of the registration form and contact STAC@justice.org immediately for staff to follow up to receive the payment.

Team Cancellation Policy

There will be penalties for schools with teams dropping out of the competition without cause. This is to allow schools on the waitlist ample time to prepare, to ensure that each region is full, and to ensure that the competition is fair.

  • If a team drops out of the competition after 5:00 PM ET on November 21, you will not receive a refund.
  • If a team drops out of the competition after 5:00 PM ET on December 12, you will not receive a refund, and the following penalties will be assessed:
    • If the school has two teams competing in 2026, they will only be permitted to have one team compete in 2027.
    • If the school has one team competing in 2026, they will not be permitted to field a team in 2027.

Teams that were penalized for dropping out of the 2025 competition without cause were notified before 2026 school registration opened.
