Proposed Amendment to FRE 609(a) - Impeachment by Prior Conviction

The Advisory Committee on Evidence Rules is currently considering a proposal to eliminate Federal Rule of Evidence 609(a), which allows for the impeachment of witnesses with felony convictions that do not involve dishonesty or false statements. AAJ submitted a letter to the Evidence Committee in support of the proposed rule during the informal rulemaking stage in April 2024.
